Do Elephants Have Souls? Elephants Prove They Are Self-Conscious by Looking at Themselves in a Mirror1 min read

Elephants are truly some of the most remarkable creatures in nature. Although it’s challenging for scientists to define what makes a creature self-conscious and self-aware, they have determined that certain patterns of behavior do demonstrate their conscious intelligence.

If an animal is able to recognize themselves in the mirror, this means they have self-awareness.  Elephants are able to tell that they are looking at themselves, and sometimes they even move to test the mirror image just to make sure it is really them.  This is the beginning of true intelligence: the recognition of oneself as a conscious individual.  This is also a condition that ancient greek philosophers would set forth to evaluate the presence of a soul.  Can the being reflect on themselves?  Are they aware of their own awareness? If so, a soul is present.

Here’s an amazing video where an Elephant’s reaction to a mirror proves their self-awareness and sophistication.

These elephants use mirrors to do things we as humans do as well, considering elephants other than just themselves, while giving clues that they are having a Spiritual Experience!

Elephants are being poached at a rate of 100-elephants a day in Africa, and these rates are staggering. It’s vital we save this unique and precious species while they are still around.

As we appreciate the intelligence of animals we too demonstrate our own intelligence as humans. Plus, they love to paint!
