The new year started, and it’s just about that time where people begin making their resolutions again.  Most of these resolutions involve physical health and weight loss, which is great, but very few involve things pertaining to spirituality.  Jenny Craig can only do so much for you. Resolutions are usually made for the body, not the soul.  But what can be more important than spiritual health?

It seemed like 2017 was a really big year for a lot of people.  Toxic relationships ended, and the foundations of new beginnings were created in anticipation for the next year.  A lot of new connections were made.  It seemed to be a year of renewal.  With that being said there, 2018 will be a huge year for our planet.  The world has really waken up over the last few years, and now it’s our responsibility to make sure we are doing our part to be the change.

Here are 4 resolution ideas that will enhance your spiritual life and help you evolve this upcoming year.  If everyone practiced these 4 things on a daily basis, our world would transform overnight:

1) Practice Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is one of the most extraordinary experiences you could have as a human being.  Being awake within a dream, you are able to consciously interact with it just as you interact in the real world. Everything is saturated with colour and vibrantly alive, and it feels far more real than waking life does.

There are many practical benefits to lucid dreaming.  For me personally, it reminded be of how much life is like a dream and helped me appreciate the impermanence.  It helped me cultivate more consciousness and awareness in waking life by reminding me that I don’t have to be a victim to my surroundings, and can instead become lucid and take control.  But most profoundly, lucid dreaming led to both of my out-of-body experiences, which confirmed to me my identity as an eternal soul inhabiting a temporary human body.

I have found that the most effective way to induce lucid dreams is to repeat the phrase in your head “I am going to remember to recognize that I am dreaming”.  Say this all day in your mind, especially as you are laying in bed.  Combine this with the knowledge that you WILL have a lucid dream.  Belief and affirmation plays a huge part. Here is a list of the top 10 ways to induce lucid dreaming.

2) Meditate

This is one that a lot of people resist, including myself.  But I always notice that the amount of time I spend meditating always correlates to the amount of peace I feel inside me.  Meditation silents the mind and reveals the games it likes to play.  It likes to dwell, over analyze, and react.  Most of our unhappiness and suffering is actually caused by our thinking, so the more we can master our own minds, the more happiness we experience.

You don’t have to meditate for an hour a day, or look at meditation as being just another thing you have to do during the day.  It can be as simple as choosing to sit in silence for 10 minutes each day.  Sit somewhere with a straight back, close your eyes, and just be.  Don’t think or try to do anything, just simply exist in stillness.  Practicing this will completely transform your life.

Meditation has been shown to improve creativity, reduce stress, improve digestion, lower blood pressure, reduce risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease, and even increase the size of your brain (1).  But most importantly, it sets your spirit free and exposes you to the infinite inner realms of the soul.  It allows you to step outside of your human life and bask in the essence of the universe.  Let silence be your teacher. It’s an essential part to any spiritual journey.

3) Spend Time In Nature

Nature is medicine for the body and soul.  Literally.  It has been shown to improve the health of your lungs and heart, improve your creativity, boost your immunity, give you more energy, and improve your sleep (2).  Cleaner air, more vitamin D, and the break from routine are can’t hurt either.

Spending time in nature reminds us of our roots.  We came from the ashes and dust of the earth.  The wilderness is our home.  Albert Einstein once said “Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better”.  In a world that is dominated by pavement and technology, I think we could all use a little more time in places that haven’t been tainted by the hands of man.

4) Read More

Books are like fuel for the mind.  The allow us to reach a truth about the world we live in and about ourselves.  With each book we read, we give ourselves a new perspective to think from, which always results in a more well-rounded outlook on life.  They stimulate your mind, develop your intelligence, and expand your vocabulary.

They also reduce stress, improve memory, and improve your critical thinking skills.  And on top of all of that, they are also a form of entertainment.  If we replaced just one hour per night of watching television with reading a book, we would completely transform over the course of a year.  But what books will best help us evolve spiritually and expand our minds?

Here is a list of 35 must-read spiritual books you probably haven’t heard of!

If we began to incorporate these things into our daily lives, we would make 2015 a year of consciousness and spiritual evolution.  Happy New Year!
